Prep Roundup: Etling helps North volleyball to victory

Terre Haute North got nine kills from Mary Kate Etling in defeating West Vigo 25-15, 25-10, 25-17 in high school volleyball Wednesday on the Patriots’ court.

Highlights — For North, Mary Kate Etling had 9 kills, 8 points and 3 blocks; Brittany Farmer had 2 kills, 13 points, 2 assists and 4 blocks; Laura Mauer had 18 assists, 2 digs and 12 points; and Katie Behnke had 2 kills, 18 points and 6 digs.
JV — North won 15-8, 15-10.
Next — North (18-5) will play Lawrence North and Carmel at Terre Haute South on Saturday.

• North captures WIC — At Brazil, Northview survived a marathon match with Owen Valley to win 25-20, 25-22, 20-25, 21-25, 15-11 and capture the Western Indiana Conference championship.

Highlights — For Northview, Brittaney Long had 16 kills; Hannah Hayes had 12 kills and 28 assists; Ashlen Buck had 27 digs; and Lizzie Emmert and Hannah Emmert each had 9 kills.

Next — Northview (22-3 overall, 6-0 WIC) will participate in the North Montgomery tournament Saturday. Owen Valley is now 19-5 and 5-1 respectively.
• Rockville falls short — At Rockville, despite getting 14 kills from Beth Mahurin and eight kills from Laura Payne, the host Rox

• Arrows rule — At Sullivan, Kelsey Lane posted nine kills in helping the host Golden Arrows defeat Edgewood 25-11, 25-18, 25-11.

Cross country
• West Vigo boys win — At West Vigo, Andrew Kump claimed individual honors as the host Vikings had the top five finishers in a 15-44 boys victory over Paris (Ill.).
In the girls race, West Vigo’s Sarah Hudson finished first, but the Vikings did not enough runners to score against Paris.
