Metro roundup: Indiana State cross country teams face premier competition at Notre Dame

The Tribune-Star

Nearly 20 nationally-ranked men’s and women’s teams will compete at the Notre Dame Invitational to be held at the nine-hole Notre Dame Golf Course.

The meet will start with the Gold Division women’s and men’s races at 2 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. respectively, followed by the Blue Division women’s race at 4:15 p.m. and the men’s races at 5 p.m.

Tennis

• Tabet coaching both teams — The Indiana State women’s team will participate in the Hoosier Classic at Bloomington this weekend.

“Our players had a pretty positive tournament at Western Michigan,” coach Malik Tabet said. “We have addressed some of the issues that we saw there and I am hoping that the girls will

apply these changes at the Indiana tournament.”

With men’s coach Jonas Piibor departing to take a job as associate head coach at the University of Oregon, Tabet will have double duty by coaching the men’s team. The Sycamore men will compete at Ball State this weekend in the Ball State Invitational.

“It will be interesting to see how the players will compete this weekend,” Tabet said. “I am going to evaluate the team during this tournament and see what needs to be worked on and then set up a training schedule for the rest of the fall season.”

Softball

• ISU hires assistant coach — Indiana State University coach Brenda Coldren has made a key addition to her coaching staff with the hiring of Tracy Jordan, who coaches the past two years at Eastern New Mexico University.

“I am very happy to join the Sycamore program,” said Jordan. “I had a good two years at ENMU but now I’m ready to move on with the Sycamores and help continue their success in the Missouri Valley Conference.”

Before joining the coaching ranks, Jordan concluded one of the most distinguished playing careers in ENMU history. After collegiate play in 2006, Jordan earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Community Physical Education, making the honor roll numerous times. She also obtained her Master of Science Degree in Sports Administration while at ENMU.

“I am excited to add Tracy to our coaching staff,” commented head coach Brenda Coldren. “She is highly motivated, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about being a Sycamore. I look forward to working with her.”
