Metro Roundup: Evansville outshoots ISU women’s soccer 23-8 on way to 4-0 victory

Evansville —
The Indiana State women’s soccer team was outshot 23-8 and dropped a Missouri Valley Conference game to Evansville 4-0.
The Purple Aces got first-half goals from Kayla Lambert and Mia Tofano, with Lambert adding an early-second half goal. Susan McKinely added a late goal to make the final margin four.
Indiana State (2-8, 1-1 MVC) was led by freshman Katie Geyman’s three shots. Evansville (7-2-2, 2-0 MVC) won its seventh straight at home.
Baseball
• Yankees win championship — The Volkers Group Yankees clinched the Terre Haute age 38 and over baseball championship with an 8-2 victory over the Cardinals Sunday.
The win capped an unlikely championship by the Yankees who began the post-season tourney as the lowest seed. The team had finished regular season play with three victories and then swept through the tourney with three more wins.

Auto racing
• Carmichaels win — At Putnamville, the Carmichaels were winners Saturday in the season finale at Lincoln Park Speedway.
Kenny Carmichael won the feature for modifieds and was sixth in the sprint main. Kenny Carmichael Jr. was first in his heat and won the main event for super stocks and eighth in sprint feature action.
Other winners were Billy Puterbaugh in sprint cars and Ron Wallen in bombers.

• Bacon posts win — At Winchester, Brady Bacon won the U. S. Auto Club sprint car race Sunday at Winchester Speedway Oldtimers Weekend.
Bacon won his heat and led the final 20 laps of the feature with Darren Hagen second.
Jerry Coons Jr. was eighth and has a two-point lead over Levi Jones, who was 12th, in the sprint point totals going into action starting Oct. 30 in California.

• Bland wins — At Haubstadt, Jeff Bland Jr. was the winner of a $10,000 race for sprint cars at Tri-State Speedway.
Daron Clayton led most of the way but was sidelined with engine problems with seven laps to go in the 50-lap feature race. Brady Short finished second while Blake Fitzpatrick won his heat and made the feature with 45 cars at the track.
In another sprint car race, Dave Darland won $6,000 for winning the Shaheen Special on Friday at Jacksonville, Ill. Darland won the C-main at Tri-State after flipping in his heat race.
