NTH 9-10s win opener in state tournament at South Bend

South Bend — North Terre Haute’s 9-10 year-old Little League team won its opening game in the Indiana state tournament Thursday.

Nick Rush, Dylan Miller and Brett Herndon combined to limit Wabash to two hits, while striking out 12 batters.

Herndon led the offense with a two-run home run in the first inning at Chet Waggoner Field.

Highlights — For North Terre Haute, Brett Herndon hit a two-run home run; Brandon Taylor had a double; Nick Rush had a double; and Stefan Massey had a double.

• Junior Legion — At Terre Haute South, Wayne Newton Post 346 won its opener in the five--team, double-elimination junior legion state tournament.

Josh Dove homered and had three hits.
