Metro Roundup: North TH 11-12s drop first two games in state tournament

North Terre Haute has dropped its first two games of the Indiana Little League 11-12-year-old state baseball tournament Monday and Tuesday.
NTH dropped its opener in pool play late Monday, Munster winning 4-0.
On Tuesday, NTH led 3-2 after the top of the fourth inning, but Brownsburg exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the frame and went on to easily win 12-3. Brownsburg pounded four home runs in the contest.,
NTH will play its final pool play game against State Park at 6:45 p.m. today, needing to finish in the top two of four teams for advancement into Thursday’s semifinals.

Golf
• Kaperak goes 1-1 -- At Cicero, Ted Kaperak of Terre Haute advanced to the quarterfinals of the IGA Senior Match Play Championship on Tuesday.
Kaperak was the No. 4 seed of the 16 players who qualified following stroke play Monday at Bear Side Golf Club.
He defeated Greg Hardin 4 and 3, then fell to Bill Barnes in the quarterfinals 3 and 2.
• Goss third — At Valparaiso, Thomas Goss of Terre Haute finished in a tie for third place in the boys 15-16 division of a Mountain Dew Tour event at Valparaiso Country Club on Tuesday.
Kaelyn Lingenfelter of Rochester, daughter of former Terre Haute South player Lyle Lingenfelter, tied for second in the girls 15-16 division.
• Hole-in-one — At Country Club of Terre Haute, Bobby McClelland fired a hole-in-one on the 121-yard No. 10 hole using an eight-iron on Monday. Witnesses were Tom Thompson and Bruce Adelman.
Harness racing
• Fair doubleheader set — At Paris, Ill., a double program of harness racing is scheduled today at the Edgar County Fair starting at noon CDT.
Six heats slated to have been run Tuesday will be run first followed by 10 heats slated for today.
Officials worked for several hours attempting to get the track in suitable conditions to run following overnight rains but called the program when it was deemed not possible.
