Metro roundup: First-year ISU volleyball coach announces schedule

staff report
The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE Two big early season tournaments and matches against several NCAA qualifiers from a year ago highlight the early portion of the 2008 Indiana State University volleyball schedule.

“We are going to get a good idea of where we are and where we need to be very early on,” first-year ISU volleyball coach Traci Dahl. “We had a very successful spring season and we are looking forward to the challenges that await us this fall.”

Sycamore fans will be able to meet the team when ISU hosts their annual Alumni Match at 2 p.m. on Aug. 23. The brief match will be followed by a reception in Dede III of the Student Union.

Indiana State is coming off a 2007 season where they finished 3-23 overall and 0-18 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Sycamores have won just one MVC match and eight matches overall in the past three seasons.

“We are already a more competitive team,” Dahl said. “We have some very good athletes who are ready to take this program to the next level. This season will be challenging but I believe that the girls have bought into the new system and are working hard to become a championship caliber team.”
