Metro Roundup: North Terre Haute 11-12 baseball falls to Haubstadt 8-6

Princeton —
Haubstadt scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to come from behind and defeat North Terre Haute 8-6 in the first game of the Little League 11-12 year-old Section Tournament on Tuesday.
North Terre Haute overcame a 3-0 deficit in the first inning and assumed a 6-4 lead in heading to the bottom of the fifth inning. But Haubstadt put together a double, three singles and a pair of walks to earn the victory.

Highlights — For NTH, Jonathan Eilbracht had a double and 2 singles; Lucas Davis had a double and single; Austin Massey had 2 singles; Zach Milam had a home run; Cole Wiley had a double. For Haubstadt, Tobe Tichenor hit a pair of home runs.
Next — North Terre Haute will face Haubstadt in game two of this best-of-three series at 7 p.m. today. If NTH wins, the two teams would play an “if necessary” game three at the same time on Thursday.

• Little League 9-10s — At North Terre Haute, North Terre Haute defeated West Terre Haute 12-1, while Clinton edged Terre Haute South 7-6 in Little League 9-10 year-old District 4 action on Tuesday.
NTH (3-0 in round robin) will host West Terre Haute (2-1) in the championship game at 7 p.m. today. Clinton (1-2) and THS (0-3) bowed out of tournament play.,
• Riley 8s runner-up — At Vincennes, the Riley Nationals 8-year-olds finished runner-up in the Cal Ripken Southwest State Tournament last weekend.

• Tigers roar — At Chicago, five members of the Terre Haute Tigers did well enough in the Region VII Junior Olympics meet Saturday and Sunday that they qualified for the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics on July 22-27 at Omaha, Neb.

GIRLS
Youth (ages 13-14) — Rachel Welker went 9 feet, 7 inches in the pole vault to place 1st, qualify for nationals and set a meet record for her age group. In the high jump, Welker cleared 4-11 to place 1st and qualify for nationals. Also, Sarah Fears placed 3rd in the long jump (13-5) to qualify for nationals.
Midget (11-12) — Lindsay Welker ran 800 meters in 2 minutes, 45.23 seconds to place 2nd and qualify for nationals.
Intermediate (15-16) — Emily Cotterman placed 2nd in the 3,000 meters (11:32.07), 3rd in the 1,500 (5:28.73) and 3rd in the 2,000 steeplechase (8:04.75). All times qualified for nationals.
Bantam (9-10) — Maggie Mulligan ran the 800 in 4:43.72 to place 3rd and qualify for nationals.
Sub-bantam (8 and younger) — Addison Readinger placed 3rd in the 800 (3:51.90) in an age group that does not send athletes to nationals.
BOYS
Bantam (9-10) — Competing against older boys, 7-year-old Josh Readinger broke 7 minutes in the 1,500 (6:59.70).
• Roads honored — At Evansville, University of Southern Indiana senior Rob Roads of Terre Haute was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Men’s Track and Field Team.
Roads, a five-time Academic All-Great Lakes Valley Conference performer in cross country and track, has a 3.631 grade-point average in physical education.
Golf
• Campbell wins again — At Rockville, Russ Campbell won the Parke County Club Championship for the third straight year over the weekend by shooting a 142 in the two-day event.

At Lebanon, Phillip Myers of Terre Haute finished in a tie for second with a score of 69 at the Ulen Country Club on Monday. Kade Baker of Brazil fired an 80 to end up tied for 37th.
At Noblesville, Thomas Goss tied for fifth in the boys 15-16 division at Fox Prairie Golf Course with a round of 77 on Monday.
• Goddard wins — At Henderson, Ky., Idle Creek PGA professional Ray Goddard fired a one-under-par 71 to win by five strokes in the professional division of the Tri-State Pro-Am at Henderson Country Club this weekend.
