Indiana State and Miami (Ohio) combined for 29 runs and 34 hits Tuesday at Sycamore Field, but the Sycamores (15-32) had the upperhand to earn the 17-12 college baseball win.
Chris Schmidt continued his blazing hitting with a 3-for-5 performance and four runs batted in. Brian Ramirez scored four times to go with two RBIs, and Pascual Del Real added two RBIs.
The Sycamores play Illinois State on Thursday in its final Missouri Valley Conference series of the season.

n Jones shares lead — At Columbus, Tom Jones of Terre Haute and Indianapolis pro Denny Ford shared the lead at the end of the first round of the Indiana PGA Senior Open played Tuesday at Otter Creek. Jones and Ford each shot 2-under-par 70, one shot better than amaters Jerry McMullen and Gordie Rees. Jones had a 1-over-par 37 on the front and carded 33 on the back for his 70. Ted Kaperak of Terre Haute had the best score of other Valley players with 74, good for a tie for 24th in the big field.
