Metro Roundup: Rose senior caps career with school-record run

Tribune-Star staff report

Bloomington Rose-Hulman senior Matt Repking capped his track and field career with a school record Friday night to highlight the Engineers’ final meet of the 2008 season, the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University.

Repking ran a time of 9:28.57 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to place seventh overall against a predominately Division I field. His time topped the previous mark set by Barry Wallen in 1982 by a two-second margin.

Rachel Krasich added the second-best time of her career in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to cap her career. Krasich ran a time of 11:28.38 for sixth place against the Division I field.

Janel Belton added a 10th place finish in the women’s discus throw to round out the Engineer efforts.

• Sycamore fourth — At Port St. Lucie, Fla., Indiana State sophomore Mackenzie Mack is in fourth place after two rounds of the PGA Minority Golf Championship at the PGA Club.

There are 10 individuals in the NCAA Women’s Independent Division of the tournament. The 54-hole, stroke-play championship consists of four divisions: NCAA Men’s Division I and II and NAIA Men’s and Women’s. In addition, there is an Individual Invitational competition for minority men and women contestants. The Individual Invitational is open to students who are African-American, Hispanic-American, Native or Alaskan American, Asian or Pacific Island American.
