Metro Roundup: Engineers’ Goslee takes home honor

Rose-Hulman sophomore Jordan Goslee was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year on Wednesday.
Also, seniors Katie Frey and Ashley Montgomery, sophomore Brittany Bernthold and freshman Kyla Lutz joined Goslee on the first-team all-HCAC squad.
Goslee established single-season school records for earned run average, strikeouts and won-loss percentage. She finished the season with a 12-2 record, a 1.05 earned-run average and 148 strikeouts in 107 innings pitched.
Frey batted .344 with 31 hits and nine doubles this season, finishing as Rose’s career record holder for home runs (7) and doubles (29).
Montgomery, who also earned all-region honors this season, recorded a .377 batting average and owns the career school mark of 37 stolen bases.
Bernthold led the Engineers with a .414 batting average and 55 hits for the second most hits in a season in school history. Lutz batted .358 with 10 multiple hit games.
Baseball
• ISU-Purdue cancelled — The threat of severe weather forced the cancellation of Indiana State’s game vs. Purdue at Sycamore Field on Wednesday. The game will not be made up, making it the third home game this season that has been cancelled due to weather.
The Sycamores have just four home games left, Miami (Ohio) next Tuesday and then Illinois State for three games starting next Thursday.
• Men’s Senior League — Bloodworth Painting A’s defeated the Diamondbacks 6-2 in Terre Haute Men’s Senior League action last weekend.
Highlights — For the A’s, Clark Haase was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBIs; Jim Action was 2 for 3 with a double; Brian Slover was 2 for 2; Stan Henderson struck out 9 batters in 4 innings. For the Diamondbacks, Martin had a double and an RBI.
Golf
• ISU’s Mack invited — Indiana State sophomore Mackenzie Mack will compete this weekend in the 22nd PGA Minority Collegiate Championships at Port St. Lucie, Fla.
The prestigious 54-hole, three-round event will host both men’s and women’s teams from around the country as well as individual players. The PGA invited all participants for this year’s event.
Mack recently completed her second season with the ISU women’s golf program. Her best finish of the season came in a tie for 18th place at the Saluki Invitational with a two-round score of 153.
