Body recovered from Sugar Creek

PARKE COUNTY — A Rockville man’s body was recovered Monday evening from Sugar Creek west of Bloomingdale in Parke County.

Indiana conservation officers are investigating the death of 27-year-old John Androusky, whose body was located in about 8 feet of water upstream of the Jackson Covered Bridge.

Authorities report that Androusky had been hiking with a friend on Sugar Creek Conservation Area when he reportedly swam across Sugar Creek and back. According to witnesses, he was standing near the water’s edge and collapsed into the creek. A 911 call was placed by Androusky’s hiking companion to the Parke County Sheriff’s Dispatch at 5:28 p.m. Androusky’s body was recovered by divers at 6:28 p.m. Monday.

Efforts to resuscitate Androusky were unsuccessful. An autopsy is set for this afternoon at Terre Haute Regional Hospital by pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr.

Agencies responding to the scene were Indiana Conservation Officers, Parke County Sheriff’s Department, Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department, Parke County EMS and Parke County Coroner’s Office.
