After delays, construction resumes

Cheddars gets go ahead for work site

A long talked-about restaurant is now under construction on Terre Haute’s South Side.

A late-September opening is anticipated for Cheddar’s Casual Cafe at 4424 S. U.S. 41 near Springhill Drive.

While the Greer Land Company confirmed in January 2013 that it would be opening the restaurant, some delays have occurred along with way.

“There were some issues with utility access,” said project manager Robert Rowell, who noted that construction began a couple of weeks ago, and should be completed in September, weather permitting. The permits on the project callfor an 8,692-square foot single-story building estimated to cost $350,000.

Rowell said the restaurant will be the 42nd Cheddars location for Greer, which is the largest franchisee of the company. The company also operates restaurants in Bloomington, Greenwood, Avon, Evansville and Clarksville, Ind.

Most menu items are under $13, mainly in the $6 to $9 range with big portions, Greer said of the Cheddar’s franchise.

Designs of the new Cheddar’s building show a patio area with 48 seats in an area of 1,862 square feet and a bar and lounge area with 75 seats. The entire restaurant will have 409 seats. The building will have 220 parking spaces, according to building permits.
