Sandifer gets April trial in shooting case

TERRE HAUTE — A Terre Haute man arrested in connection with a Nov. 11 shooting has been given an April 30 trial date.

Clarence E. Sandifer, 36, appeared in Vigo Superior Court 3 on Monday morning where he was assigned a public defender. His bail is set at $125,000 cash only.

Sandifer has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery, a class-B felony. He was arrested Friday. Police had sought him for a shooting that occurred at a home in the 2000 block of North 13th Street near Maple Avenue. During a struggle with the alleged victim, Sandifer allegedly shot the other man in the chest with a small-caliber handgun. Sandifer then fled the scene, police said.

The victim was hospitalized for treatment, but has been released.

Judge David Bolk also set an April 8 pretrial conference date in the case.
