TERRE HAUTE —

Man arrested after stabbings

A Terre Haute man has been arrested in connection with an aggravated battery after he allegedly stabbed two men on Monday.

Justin Ray Sims, 24, is being held in the Vigo County Jail with bond of $25,000 cash only after appearing Tuesday morning in Vigo Superior Court 1.

According to police, Sims got into an altercation with a man who was stabbed in the arm near Seventh and Locust streets late Monday. The victim was able to get away and flagged down a police officer, who took the victim back to where the incident occurred. When the officer arrived, he found that another man had gotten into an altercation with Sims, and the two were still struggling. That second man had been stabbed in the chest.

Police report that Sims was wearing brass knuckles when he was located, and there was a knife found on the ground at his feet.

Sims was arrested on two counts of aggravated battery.

Judge John Roach ordered that formal charges be filed Friday.

Carjacking leads to arrest

A Terre Haute man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery resulting in injury, a class-B felony, and auto theft, a class-D felony, after a reported carjacking last week.

Tracey R. Higginbotham Jr., 22, is being held in the Vigo County Jail with bail set at $100,000 cash only.

Detective Troy Davis said Higginbotham was with two other men on Friday when the incident occurred in a parking lot at 14th and Poplar streets. The victim reported that the three men were standing outside the victim’s car when Higginbotham allegedly punched the man in the face, took his car keys and cell phone, and left in the car. Another man at the scene also told police that Higginbotham took the car.

Davis reported that the victim’s car was later found in the Edgewood Grove area, parked about two blocks from Higginbotham’s home.

Higginbotham was arrested when he arrived at police headquarters in possession of the cell phone and car keys.

Judge John Roach set a deadline of Friday for filing of formal charges in the case.
