‘The Apprentice’ winner to speak at Chamber dinner

100th birthday celebration is tonight

TERRE HAUTE — A man who became famous for being the last standing contestant on the premier season of “The Apprentice” is set to help the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce celebrate its 100th birthday tonight.

Bill Rancic, winner of the first season of the NBC reality show, is the scheduled keynote speaker at tonight’s 100th anniversary celebration for the chamber in Hulman Center.

“I think we’re celebrating a pretty good milestone,” Rancic told the Tribune-Star on Tuesday afternoon in a telephone interview. “You’ve got to recognize victories and accomplishments.”

In his talk, Rancic said he will share the lessons he has learned from competing on “The Apprentice” and through his many business ventures.

“I think these lessons can be applied to all aspects of life, whether it’s your business, your personal life, your spiritual life, it’s something we can adapt to different areas,” he said.

Rancic is a best-selling author and real estate developer. He also produces and stars in several television programs including the A&E series, “We Mean Business” and the Style Network’s reality series “Giuliana and Bill.” He is the executive producer of the Discovery Channel program, “Repo Man.”

Chambers of commerce can be vital parts of a community’s success or failure, Rancic said. It speaks well of Terre Haute that its chamber is 100 years old, he said.

“When I was a young kid, I joined Junior Achievement,” Rancic said. “The chamber was active in [Junior Achievement]. …That helped me learn entrepreneurial skills,” he said.
