Alcohol a factor in 3-vehicle crash Sunday near Riley

TERRE HAUTE — A driver who tested nearly five times the legal limit for alcohol caused a three-vehicle crash on Indiana 46 near Old Riley Road on Sunday, according to Indiana State Police.

Preliminary investigation revealed a Kia van was eastbound on Indiana 46 approaching two vehicles that were stopped to make a left turn into the Maryland Community Church.

The van, driven by Janeen L. Sackett, 42, of Terre Haute, failed to slow or stop and struck a pickup driven by 19-year-old Zachary Moore in the rear, according to Indiana State Police. The pickup was pushed forward into the rear of a car driven by Christina M. Anderson, 36, of Terre Haute.

Sackett appeared intoxicated at the scene and attempted to walk away from the crash, according to police. She was detained by off-duty Terre Haute Police Officer Justin Sears until arrival of ISP troopers.

Sackett was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for an alcohol test, which showed a 0.39 percent blood-alcohol level, nearly five times the legal limit.

No one was injured in the accident.

Sackett was incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated (with a prior conviction on the same charge), a class-D felony; driving while suspended (with a prior conviction), misdemeanor; operating while intoxicated — endangering, a misdemeanor; and aggressive driving (misdemeanor).
