Second nabbed in Sullivan marijuana investigation

SULLIVAN — A second suspect is in custody in connection with an ongoing marijuana investigation in northeastern Sullivan County.

Two Jasonville men now face charges of cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance, all class-D felonies, and misdemeanor possession of paraphernalia, as the result of an Indiana State Police marijuana cultivation investigation.

Keith A. Joseph, 59, turned himself in at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Sullivan County Jail, after conferring with his attorney. He had been in communication with police since Thursday.

Charles B. Beaver, 53, was arrested Thursday after police served a search warrant at the home that the two men share in the 8900 block of Indiana 48 near the Sullivan-Clay county line. A search of the property — identified in a routine flyover of rural northeastern Sullivan County by Indiana State Police — yielded about eight pounds of processed marijuana, 68 marijuana plants and numerous drug paraphernalia items.

The ISP marijuana eradication team found the processed marijuana in various locations inside the ranch-style home. The plants — ranging from 5- to 7-feet high — were found at three separate plots in a wooded area near the home.

The estimated street value of the marijuana was $75,000.

Both men were lodged in the Sullivan County Jail, with bail set at $28,000 each.
