Driver injured after swerving to avoid deer, hitting tree

TERRE HAUTE — A Jasonville man was injured in an early morning crash today in Vigo County.

Riley firefighters responded to the scene on Louisville Road about 1.5 miles south of Riley.

A 41-year-old man reported that he was driving north when a deer ran into the road and he swerved to avoid the animal. His vehicle left the road and struck a tree head on.

The driver was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities remind motorists to stay alert to deer along the roadway at this time of year.
