Freezing rain causes road troubles across Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Freezing rain across much of central and northern Indiana coated roads with ice overnight, contributing to many crashes.

State police say a woman was killed when her SUV spun out Sunday evening on a snow-slick Interstate 65 near Roselawn in northwestern Indiana and was struck by a car and a semi. Police say 28-year-old Ashley Rogers of Avon died soon after the crash.

Icy roads late Sunday caused several crashes in the Lafayette area, including one where a vehicle ran into a fire engine stopped on U.S. 52 near Colfax where an SUV had rolled over. Jarrod Blacker of the Perry Township Fire Department in Clinton County told WTHR-TV the roads were like a skating rink.

The freezing rain ended early today but officials warned slick conditions could continue.
