Man found guilty in check-cashing robberies

TERRE HAUTE — A Martin County man has been convicted of two counts of class-B felony armed robbery for two 2010 robberies in Terre Haute.

A jury trial for Homer Ballard, 59, ended Friday with the convictions in Vigo Superior Court 6. Ballard’s sentencing date is now set for 1:30 p.m. Oct. 2.

The local robberies occurred in March and April 2010, when a man entered check-cashing businesses armed with a handgun and demanded money.

Ballard was arrested a few months later in Texas for armed robbery.

He has also been connected to armed robberies in Dubois, Madison and Monroe counties, and he has been convicted of criminal confinement with a deadly weapon in Switzerland County.
