Enrollment/info event planned for Affordable Care Act

TERRE HAUTE — An enrollment/information event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Wabash Valley Health Center (St. Ann Clinic) for those interested in obtaining health insurance through the federal marketplace, part of the Affordable Care Act.

Wabash Valley Health Center is located at 1436 Locust St.

Open enrollment for the federal insurance  marketplace ends March 31, said Margie Anshutz, Hamilton Center chief development officer. “It’s important we work to enroll as many people as we can who need health insurance benefits,” she said.

Those attending can find out more about their options, sign up for marketplace insurance or meet with a “navigator,” someone trained and certified to provide  impartial assistance to consumers needing insurance.

There is a penalty for those who don’t secure insurance, and those penalties increase in future years, Anshutz said.

The event is hosted by Wabash Valley Health Center, Hamilton Center, Affiliated Service Providers of Indiana (ASPIN) and the Indiana Primary Health Care Association.

Follow-up appointments will be conducted next Wednesday.

People who want to sign up on their own can go to www.healthcare.gov. A 24/7 federal health insurance marketplace call center can be reached at 1-800-318-2596.

For further information on enrollment or about the marketplace contact the ASPIN Health Navigator call center at: 1-877-313-7215 or email a navigator at info@aspinhealthnavigator.org.
