TERRE HAUTE —
A Vigo County man has been sentenced to one year on formal probation after pleading guilty to housing children and animals in a filthy house.
Kenneth M. Walling, 37, was convicted on two class-D felony counts of child neglect and class-A misdemeanor cruelty to animals. He was sentenced to one-year of jail time on each charge to run concurrently.
According to the plea agreement approved in Vigo Superior Court 1, Walling is to have no contact with the minor children unless permitted by Child Protective Services, and he is to have no animals while serving his sentence.
Walling and his wife Tracy were arrested in August 2013 after police responded to an animal complaint at their home on U.S. 150. Sheriff’s deputies noticed a foul odor coming from the home, according to a sheriff’s department news release, and upon entering the dwelling, deputies found the floor covered in dog feces, trash and dirty diapers.
Tracy Walling still faces allegations of neglect of a dependent, a class-D felony and animal neglect/cruelty, a class-A misdemeanor.
