2013 Government Directory now available

TERRE HAUTE — The 2013 Government Directory is now available.

This directory is made possible by a grant awarded from the League of Women Voters Indiana Education Fund. The government directory provides voter registration information as well as contact information for Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, and national government offices, and local public officials and boards. The publication of the directory is part of an effort to raise awareness of government offices and officials and to encourage community understanding and participation in the development of public policies.

The League of Women Voters has been fighting for equal access to the polls for more than 90 years. Nationwide, the organization works to register voters, provide nonpartisan election information, including written statements directly from the candidates and live debates, and fights for election systems that are free, fair, and accessible. The Vigo County League is particularly known for its voter registration efforts and candidate forums.

The Vigo County Public Library and the local League are two of the co-sponsors of the Vigo County Crackerbarrel sessions. The Crackerbarrel sessions are held the second Saturday of January, February, March and April when the state legislature is in session. Representatives of Vigo County and the public are invited to discuss current issues on the state level.

The Vigo County Public Library’s Reference Department is comprised of a team of librarians who serve to provide accurate and current information to the community and welcomes the opportunity to collaborate on projects that strive for the accessibility of information.

Free copies of the 2013 Government Directory are available in Community Services Department at the Vigo County Public Library, while supplies last. One copy per household. For more information, call 812-232-1116.
