INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana Department of Natural Resources officials say a report that a bull shark has been found in the Wabash River is just another fish tale.
A photograph posted on Terre Haute television station WTHI’s Facebook page showed a bull shark that the poster claimed had been seen in the river at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute.
DNR spokesman Phil Bloom tells The Indianapolis Star the account is a hoax and that there have been no reports of shark sightings.
The DNR has received hoaxes involving wildlife before. Conservation officers last year investigated a Shelby County man who told them he had a photograph of a mountain lion. The species hasn’t been confirmed in Indiana, and biologists determined the picture was fake.
