TERRE HAUTE —
March for Babies — the fundraiser for the March of Dimes — is scheduled to step off Saturday at Indiana State University’s Memorial Stadium. Walker and team check-ins start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the opening ceremony at 9:30.
Started in 1970, March for Babies raises money to fund research and programs that help moms have full-term pregnancies and give hope to the families of babies born too soon or sick.
The March for Babies route includes a 2-mile traditional walk with the option to walk a total of 5 miles on the Indiana Mile at Memorial Stadium.
Premature births affect more than half a million babies each year, with the number growing every day, according to the March of Dimes. In Indiana, more than 10,000 babies (1 in 9) are born prematurely each year.
Registrations are still being accepted for Saturday’s walk. Register by visiting marchforbabies.org or calling 812-234-2736.
