TERRE HAUTE — The Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department celebrated its 39th annual Fowler Park Pioneer Days Oct. 1 and 2. Every fall season the public is invited to step back in time and enjoy a simpler way of life.

Pioneer Village features log cabins, a log barn, smokehouse, blacksmith shop, a covered bridge and a gristmill.

About 150 Pioneer Village folk and volunteers re-create the 1840s by demonstrating the same routine tasks and activities of their ancestors. Hands-on activities encourage visitor participation. Old-fashioned crafters set up on the south side of the village to demonstrate their talents.

The Trader’s Market in a field behind the shelter offers a variety of hand-crafted items and locally grown orchard and farm products available for purchase.

Sunday church service is conducted at 9 a.m. Sunday in the log church.

Parking is minimal for each full day. Fowler Park is south of Terre Haute and east of U.S. 41 on Oregon Church Road. For more information call (812) 462-3392.
