Police investigating rash of car window shootings

TERRE HAUTE — Terre Haute Police are investigating a rash of shootings that have shattered car windows throughout the city.

The widespread incidents began May 9, Police Chief John Plasse told the Tribune-Star, and have affected about 60 vehicles parked overnight along city streets and in driveways.

The weapon involved is believed to be a BB or pellet gun, Plasse said. No one has reported hearing gunfire related to any of the vandalism.

“We assume it is occurring from a vehicle because it is so widespread,” Plasse said.

The incidents are believed to occur in the early morning hours around 2 or 3 a.m. Even cars parked in well-lighted areas have not been immune from the damage.

Anyone with information about the vandalism is asked to call city police at 812-238-1661 or Crime Stoppers at 812-238-STOP.
