TERRE HAUTE — Two sisters were injured in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident Tuesday evening in southern Vigo County.

Vigo County sheriff’s deputies believe Katelynn E. Royer, 18, of West Terre Haute, was driving a motorcycle on Oregon Church Road near Bono Road about 5:30 p.m. when she hit loose sand in an intersection and lost control of the vehicle. Royer’s sister, Tiffany Royer, 14, was a passenger on the motorcycle when the crash occurred, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

Both were treated for back and neck injuries, abdominal pain and abrasions. None of the injuries appeared life-threatening, according to the release.

An off-duty firefighter from the Thunderbird Fire Protection District, Chris Fry, was fishing nearby when the crash took place and immediately provided first aid, according to the sheriff’s department.

The Linton Township Fire Department and Trans Care Ambulance also responded to the accident.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department reminds motorcyclists to use extreme caution and to look for loose sand in intersections as motorcycle season begins.
