TERRE HAUTE —
Suicide has been ruled the manner of death for a man’s body found late Wednesday in a wooded area near the Terre Town ball diamonds.
Vigo County Coroner Dr. Susan Amos told the Tribune-Star on Thursday afternoon that the identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
An autopsy was conducted Thursday morning at Terre Haute Regional Hospital, Amos said. The man died as a result of hanging himself with a clothesline. She said he had been dead for at least one day before being found by a person searching for mushrooms.
“It was an isolated area,” Amos said. “If it hadn’t been mushroom hunting season, this body might not have been found for weeks or months.”
The man was not a local resident, she said, but he had been employed at a local job before being recently fired.
