New splash park in Paris, Ill., to open today

PARIS, Ill. — It was a dream less than a year ago, but on the 4th of July, kids will be splashing in the new splash park in the West Twin Lakes Park in Paris. More than $200,000 was raised from businesses, organizations and individuals for the project, according to a press release.

Paris Mayor Craig Smith will serve as the master of ceremonies of the ribbon-cutting at 9:30 Central time today with the donors, city council and park board members, splash park committee members, Feutz Contractors and lots of children.

Representatives from North American Lighting will cut the ribbon as the $25,000 platinum sponsor and with the naming rights have chosen Tiger Falls Splash Park as the name of the splash park. Paris’ high school mascot is the tiger.

The splash park is a zero-depth water-play area accessible to all people, regardless of their abilities, and will be free for all.

It will complement the existing park assets, which include miniature golf, playground, pavilions and lake. It will be open through Labor Day, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The splash park is for children 12 years and younger, and children must be accompanied by an adult. The city of Paris will assume responsibility for maintenance.
