Clay County teen found battered in field

CLAY CITY — The Indiana State Police is currently investigating an alleged battery on a teenager after a 15 year-old female who appeared to have a laceration to her forehead was found semi-conscious in a Clay County field Thursday evening, police said.

Police said that troopers were told that the teenager was in a pasture area on a farm when an unknown assailant came from behind and struck her on the head. The alleged assailant then left the area. There was no description of the assailant provided to law enforcement, according to the Indiana State Police.

At around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Indiana State Police responded to a report at the 14000 block of County Road 200 West in southern Clay County after a passerby who found the victim called 911, authorities said.

According to the Indiana State Police, troopers arrived and found the female had already been transported from the scene by Trans Care EMS to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for treatment. Further investigation revealed the female was found by a passing motorist lying semi-conscious in a farm field just north of her residence. She appeared to have a laceration to her forehead area. The passerby called 911 and stayed with the victim until arrival of law enforcement and EMS.

A few days prior to this incident, police said a similar event occurred to the female in the town of Jasonville in Greene County.

The investigation is ongoing, but the Indiana State Police believe there is absolutely no danger to the public.
