TERRE HAUTE —
State overseers are expected to give final approval today to the City of Terre Haute’s 2013 budget, a city official said.
The Indiana Department of Local Government Finance, which approves local government budgets, contacted Leslie Ellis, city controller, late Wednesday, stating a final version of the Terre Haute budget will be released today.
The administration of Mayor Duke Bennett drafted the budget last year and it was passed late in 2012 by the City Council. However, city budgets must then receive approval from Indianapolis, a process that can take months.
State officials can require changes in local government budgets, Ellis noted Thursday evening.
The overall City of Terre Haute budget for 2013 is approximately $79 million. Once the 2013 budget is approved by the DLGF, it will likely require spending cuts to meet actual revenue receipts, Ellis said this week.
