Coroner: Morgan Johnson was in car

Dental records, driver’s license used to make positive ID

PLAINFIELD — The two-year search for missing Terre Haute native Morgan Johnson ended Saturday.

According to the Plainfield Police Department, a coroner positively identified the body that was inside the vehicle recovered Friday from a pond in Plainfield as Morgan Johnson.

“The coroner made this determination using dental records and Morgan Johnson’s driver’s license was recovered as well,” according to police in a press release.

Authorities said that Johnson’s family has been notified “and we are deeply saddened by their loss,” police said.

Plainfield Police Department said that the cause of death is yet to be determined.

Johnson, 27, was last seen on May 18, 2011. He had rented a room at an extended stay motel in Plainfield along Indiana 267. He was said to have a seizure disorder.

On Friday, police discovered Johnson’s car — a white 1995 Pontiac Grand Am — pulling it from the deep end of a shallow retention pond less than a mile from the motel. The car was identified by its Vigo County-issued license plate.

Since news of the discovery of Johnson’s car was made public, friends and family have been posting on the Facebook group, “Find Morgan Johnson.” Now with over 3,500 members, the group was formed to raise awareness about Johnson’s disappearance and to help find him.

Some who know Johnson and his family have left detailed messages on the group’s timeline.

“Well cousin it’s all over now. You’re in the arms of the Father. I’m truly going to miss you. Aunt Ann and Uncle Carl are definitely in my prayers,” wrote a person who owns the Facebook account, Aleanshurice Lovingmotherhood Johnson on Friday afternoon.

“Prayers are with the Johnson family as they have received the news today about Morgan. He was a wonderful and great friend of mine and he will be missed. I am thankful to the LORD for this much needed closure. Please let me know if there is anything I can do. LOVE YOU MORGAN,” Alicia Tisdale wrote.

Other supporters wrote shorter but equally heartfelt messages.

“So very sorry for your loss...may you now have some closure,” Trish Bliss wrote.

Another supporter, Terry M. Clark wrote, “Praying for Morgan’s family...so heartbreaking...”

“Lots of love to Morgan’s friends and family. I hope you find peace and I am so very sorry you had to wait so long,” wrote Jessica Welch, ending the message with a heart-shaped sign.
