Sheryl Crow, Gary Allan schedule October concert in Hulman Center

TERRE HAUTE — A twist toward country music will bring Grammy Award-winning pop-rock star Sheryl Crow to Hulman Center this fall.

Crow and country singer Gary Allan are billed as co-headliners on their Free and Easy Tour, which begins in September. They’ll make a stop in Terre Haute on Oct. 18 for a Hulman Center concert, Jennifer Cook, business manager of Hulman Center, said Thursday.

The show time, ticket prices and sales dates will be announced later, perhaps next month, Cook said. Once those details are finalized, ticket information will be available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the Hulman Center box office at Ninth and Cherry streets, online at www.indstate.edu/hctaf/

The 51-year-old Crow has received nine Grammys and 32 nominations in a career dating back to her work as a backup singer for stars such as Michael Jackson, Don Henley and Stevie Wonder.

Crow’s debut solo album, “Tuesday Night Music Club,” featured the 1994 hit single “All I Wanna Do” and exploded onto the charts, with sales reaching the quintuple-platinum status.

Crow moved to Nashville, Tenn., seven years ago after surviving breast cancer and got coaxed into pursuing country music at the suggestion of singer-guitarist Brad Paisley, according to a Chicago Sun-Times/Associated Press story this week. She’d dabbled in the genre with her 2002 duet song with Kid Rock, which scored modest chart success, but she began to seriously focus after her conversation with Paisley moments after Crow appeared with legendary Loretta Lynn at a Country Music Association Awards show.

Her first country album, “Feels Like Home,” will be released Sept. 10, and the first single, “Easy,” is available now, according to a news release on Allan’s official website.

Allan, 45, has five platinum albums, with 26 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, including four No. 1 hits. The California native topped the album charts in February with “Set You Free.”

“Sheryl and I met while doing some guitar pulls earlier this year and started talking about doing something together,” Allan said in a statement on his website. (A “guitar pull” is an informal gathering of songwriters and guitarists to share ideas.) “The timing just seemed right, and ‘Free and Easy’ just came natural to us both.”
