TERRE HAUTE — No one was hurt in an afternoon house fire this afternoon in Terre Haute that is being called “suspicious.”

Nick Sarris, Terre Haute Fire Department battalion chief, said there was no gas or electricity hooked up to the home in the 700 block of South Center Street, deeming the blaze of a suspicious nature.

This is the second fire at the home, which has been abandoned for many months. The earlier fire, within the past year, did less damage. Today’s fire destroyed much of the roof of the two-story apartment home.

The fire, which started a little before 2 p.m. and was extinguished about an hour later, remains under investigation, firefighters said.
