Pickup crashes into home on Seventh Street

TERRE HAUTE — Terry Miller was asleep early Sunday morning when he received an unexpected — and unwelcome — wake-up call.

“I heard a crash and then my house shook,” he said. A pickup truck crashed into his front porch, damaging brickwork and rails.

He’s concerned the crash may have damaged the home’s foundation as well, and he plans to have an engineer check it.

Miller, owner of Moore Photography, lives at 814 S. Seventh St.

The driver, Matthew R. McAdow, 32, of Terre Haute, was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. His blood alcohol content was 0.22 percent, Terre Haute Police said.

McAdow’s vehicle also hit a car parked along Seventh Street and damaged the vehicle’s front end. McAdow complained of pain and was taken to Union Hospital before he was taken to the jail. The incident happened about 5 a.m.

He was expected to be released from jail Sunday evening.

The accident happened on Indiana 46 at Hulman Street. According to Lt. Jeff Milner, the accident sent the officer’s vehicle into a guardrail. The officer, Brad Birchfield, was treated and released at Union Hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle, Cameron W. Fulford of Jasonville, was arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a property damage accident and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

He bonded out of the Vigo County Jail.

At about 9 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a call that a man was passed out in his vehicle near 25th Street and Lafayette Avenue

The suspect, John W. Regester, 40, of Terre Haute, was arrested on charges of dealing methamphetamine, dealing marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and habitual traffic violator.

Officers discovered a large amount of drugs in his car including methamphetamine, marijuana and assorted prescription narcotics, according to Lt. Jeff Milner.

Regester remained in the Vigo County Jail on Sunday.
