Bucshon chairs House research/science ed panel

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Doctor-congressman Larry Bucshon has been named chairman of the House subcommittee on research and science education for the 113th Congress.

The office of the southwestern Indiana Republican announced his appointment today.

House Science, Space and Technology Chairman Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas said in a news release that Bucshon was chosen “because of his extensive background in research as a physician.”

Bucshon, from Newburgh, was a heart surgeon before being elected in 2010. He won re-election to a second term in November.

The subcommittee has conducted recent hearings on topics including the role of research universities and their relationships with business, effective science and technology educational practices, and the spending of the National Science Foundation.
