INDIANAPOLIS — Police have allowed employees to return to the federal building in downtown Indianapolis after it was evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious item during a security check.
Indianapolis police spokesman Officer Christopher Wilburn says the city’s bomb squad was called to the building around 2 p.m. today. The building houses Social Security offices, other federal agencies and a day-care center.
Wilburn says a woman is being questioned.
It’s unclear what the object was.
The item is the second suspicious package found at an Indianapolis federal building in less than 24 hours. Police detonated a backpack left along a sidewalk under a window of the federal courthouse early today.
Police said that bag contained fireworks and drug paraphernalia.
