Unsolved homicide approaching one-year mark

Tips in an unsolved homicide are being sought as the one-year anniversary approaches in the death of a Sullivan County man.

On Dec. 8, 2012, 85-year-old Lowell R. Badger was found dead on the bedroom floor of his rural home on County Road 350 North in northwestern Sullivan County. He died as the result of a gunshot wound sustained during a burglary of his residence.

No arrests have been made, and police are seeking information from anyone who may recognize items taken from the Badger residence during the burglary. Items taken include Badger’s safe, a light to medium dark gray, measuring 23 1/2 inches tall, 17 inches deep, and 17 inches wide. It was in pristine condition and manufactured by John D. Brush and Company. Also taken was a black 46-inch Sony Bravia LCD television.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post at 765-653-4114 or the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office at 812-268-4044. All tips will be investigated and the person(s) can remain anonymous.

A reward of $38,000 has been established and is available for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Lowell’s death.

Citizens should also know that the Indiana State Police homepage at www.in.gov/isp has a dedicated section concerning the Lowell R. Badger homicide.
