Citywide cleanup effort set for Saturday

The Tribune-Star

TERRE HAUTE — The City of Terre Haute will have a citywide cleanup on Saturday. Keep Terre Haute Beautiful, in conjunction with the City of Terre Haute and Republic Services, organizes citywide cleanups in May and October each year.

Volunteers will meet in the parking lot of Union Hospital Professional Office Building, 1530 N. Seventh St., as early as 8 a.m. on Saturday. Volunteers will be given route maps, gloves, bags, free T-shirts and snacks, according to a press release.

The cleanup will run until noon and include several targeted areas in the city. Businesses, churches, schools and other organizations are encouraged to bring a group of people to help.

Several open top trash bins will be placed in the following locations: Booker T. Washington Community Center, City Hall, Herz-Rose Park, Union Hospital Professional Office Building and Woodrow Wilson Middle School.

The containers will be available for use by the community but will not be able to accept hazardous waste, including but not limited to refrigeration units, chemicals, CFL light bulbs, televisions, tires and batteries.

Residents are encouraged to clean up around their own property, street and alley.

If you’d like to volunteer or if you have questions, contact the mayor’s office at 812-244-2303 or email  kthb@treesinc.org.
