2 TH women make the cut, set to take Colts’ field

TERRE HAUTE — Note: Only initials of the last names were used because Colts rules dictate that cheerleaders do not give out their last names to the public.

Two women with ties to Terre Haute were chosen for this year’s Colts cheerleading squad.

For the fifth consecutive year, Stefanie B. is once again part of the team. The 25-year-old Indiana State University student has lived in Terre Haute for seven years. She is originally from Holland in Dubois County.

Stefanie describes herself as kind, optimistic and goofy, according to her bio in the Colts website.

The hardest thing about being a Colts cheerleader?

“Making the drive from Terre Haute each time is the hardest part for me, along with time management. It is very important to stay organized and keep a planner!” according to her information on the Colts website.

Also from her bio, she said being an Indianapolis Colts cheerleader for a fourth season was her greatest accomplishment. Her most memorable experience was interviewing celebrities during Super Bowl XLVI and performing live on Jimmy Fallon. She loves Zumba and her hobbies include singing, dancing and walking her dog, Kevin. She identified her relationship with God, her family, friends and her happiness as most important in life.

Terre Haute native Brianna G. is a newcomer to the team. The 22-year-old is now a resident of Plainfield (near Indianapolis) and is currently a nursing student at IUPUI. She was a finalist in the auditions last year, tried again and made it to the team this year.

“She loves to dance,” her mother, Robin Gemmecke, said. “This is something she’s always wanted, and to see her accomplish that is amazing.”

“I was so happy for her,” she said.

Described by her mom as detail-oriented, organized and someone who works hard to achieve her goals, Brianna grew up in Terre Haute and attended Honey Creek Middle School and Terre Haute South Vigo High School. She honed her dancing skills at several studios in Terre Haute.

“Dance has always been a huge part of her life,” Gemmecke said.

Her parents and brother still live in Terre Haute, and they are very proud of her accomplishment.

“I’m a very proud parent,” Gemmecke said, adding that she has always taught her daughter to be self-sufficient, to be happy and to go after her dreams.

When Brianna is not dancing or at school, she works as a student nurse at a hospital in Indianapolis.

“As a mother, to see her get what she wants, you can’t be any happier,” Gemmecke said.
