VIDEO: Community Health Fair

TERRE HAUTE — Nursing students in Indiana State University’s senior community health class hosted a community health fair Wednesday in Ryves Youth Center at Etling Hall, 1356 Locust St.

Mayor Duke Bennett helped kick off the afternoon of free activities as part of his “52 Weeks of Fitness” initiative.

Nursing students staffed informational and interactive booths,  and performed blood pressure screenings and body mass index calculations. More than 20 community exhibitors also participated, and an outside display featured emergency vehicles such as police cars, an ambulance and the Terre Haute SWAT team’s Humvee.

Other health fair participants included the Area Health Education Center, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, CARE Ambulance, Chances and Services for Youth, Council on Domestic Abuse, Indiana University School of Dentistry, March of Dimes, Red Cross, Terre Haute Fire and Police departments, Terre Haute and Vigo County Parks and Recreation departments, Vigo County Health Department and Vigo County Public Library. Union Hospital diabetes and dietetics educators, stroke educators and Wound Care Center representatives also participated.
