Spotting pot, gun in home nets 2 arrests.

TERRE HAUTE — Two adults were arrested and two children removed from a Vigo County home on Friday after drugs and a handgun with altered serial numbers were discovered in the home, authorities said.

According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, Lawrence R. Mickelson, 32, of Terre Haute, was charged with felonies, including dealing marijuana, possession of a firearm with altered serial number, maintaining a common nuisance, and possession of a controlled substance.

Amanda K. Folts, 27, of Terre Haute, was also arrested for maintaining a common nuisance and possession of marijuana.

The Department of Child Services removed two children from the residence, in the 4500 block of E. Rio Grande Avenue, said Chief Deputy Clark Cottom of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office.

DCS was checking the residence when officials observed what they believed to be marijuana plants growing in the home, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived, they observed additional plants also believed to be marijuana and, throughout the house, saw additional marijuana-like material and paraphernalia, according to authorities. They also saw items used to package and prepare marijuana for sale.

Police said that after getting a search warrant and searching the home, they located more than $5,000 in cash, additional marijuana packaging materials, firearms and more possible marijuana packaged in one-gallon plastic bags.

Deputies located the altered handgun in the basement, police said.
