TERRE HAUTE —
Formal charges are expected to be filed this week in a Friday evening shooting that hospitalized a Terre Haute man.
A judge found probable cause during the weekend for the arrest of John W. Johnson, 72, on a preliminary charge of attempted murder. Johnson is scheduled to appear in Vigo Superior Court 6 on Wednesday for the filing of formal charges.
Terre Haute Police report that officers were dispatched to the 300 block of North 18th Street at 7 p.m. Friday in reference to a shooting. They found a male victim on the porch of the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to an out-of-the-area hospital for treatment. A condition update was unavailable Monday.
Witnesses to the shooting identified the suspect as Johnson. When police arrived at Johnson’s residence in the 2300 block of Second Avenue, Johnson came to the door with his hands in front of him and advised officers that they needed to take him to jail, according to police.
Johnson is being held in the Vigo County Jail with no bond set.
