TERRE HAUTE —
The victim in a Parke County homicide that occurred last week has been identified as Kathryn A. Bays, 55, of Rosedale.
The Parke County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement Tuesday morning saying the suspect in the slaying — 52-year-old Earl L. Edwards — was arrested Friday afternoon in Alpharetta, Ga.
Edwards is expected to be brought to Parke County from Georgia by investigators today to face charges in Parke Circuit Court later this week.
An autopsy conducted Monday determined that the cause of death for Bays was blunt force trauma to the head.
Bays was discovered dead in her Rosedale home on Friday afternoon. Police have said that Edwards turned himself in to Georgia authorities.
A 911 call from Georgia allegedly placed by Bays was routed through Vigo County Central Dispatch before it was redirected to Parke County Central Dispatch. That call was received at about 1:30 p.m. Friday.
Police went to the home to investigate, Parke Sheriff Mike Eslinger said, and police found the body. Detectives were called to the scene, along with the Indiana State Police.
It was not clear when the homicide occurred.
