TERRE HAUTE —
A Terre Haute woman remains hospitalized this morning after being struck by a car along U.S. 41 at Honey Creek Street, which is in the area of Honey Creek Middle School.
Chief Deputy Clark Cottom of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department reports that Bridget Heminghouse was walking south along U.S. 41 from her stalled car toward her residence when she was struck by a southbound vehicle.
Emergency responders were called to the scene at 3:30 a.m. Cottom reports that the preliminary investigation shows that Jane Lingenfelser of Terre Haute was driving south in the left lane of U.S. 41 at the intersection of Honey Creek Street when she saw a pedestrian walking in the middle of the left lane. Lingenfelser told police she was unsuccessful in swerving to avoid a collision.
Heminghouse was taken to Terre Haute Regional Hospital for evaluation and treatment. She remains in the intensive care unit Tuesday afternoon.
Cottom reports that Heminghouse did test positive for alcohol, however, she was under the legal limit for intoxication. Lingenfelser tested negative for alcohol.
No criminal charges are being pursued at this time, he reported.
