Two people still in hospital after Sunday crash

TERRE HAUTE — Two of the three people injured in a two-vehicle collision Sunday remain hospitalized.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department reports that motorist Katherine Goodrich, 70, was airifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with multiple injuries, including a broken ankle and severe cuts to her head. She remained hospitalized in critical condition Monday afternoon.

The other driver — 21-year-old Derik Franklin of Fairbanks — was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital with a possible broken leg. He remained hospitalized on Monday afternoon. Franklin’s passenger — 22-year-old Ian Bolin of Terre Haute — was transported to Union Hospital for severe cuts to his head. He was transferred to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.

Witnesses told police that a 2001 Chevrolet Impala driven by Goodrich was westbound at about 2:55 p.m. on Harlan Drive approaching the intersection with Indiana 63 when her car failed to stop for the stop sign. Her car collided with a northbound 2002 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Franklin.

Goodrich was trapped inside the vehicle and was extricated by Prairieton Fire and Rescue.

Police have listed the preliminary cause of the crash as failure to stop at the stop sign.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected as factors, but routine tests were conducted on both drivers due to the severity of the injuries.

Seatbelts were worn by all three people involved in the incident, police report.
