INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — More than 68,000 homes and businesses in mostly northern and central Indiana remain without power in the wake of Sunday’s tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.
Duke Energy reported about 25,000 customers still in the dark this morning, with about 12,000 of those in Tippecanoe County and another 7,000 outages in hard-hit Howard County.
Indiana Michigan Power reported more than 26,000 customers without power, including 12,000 in South Bend and another 5,900 in Fort Wayne.
Northern Indiana Public Service Co. crews were still working to restore power to about 11,500 customers after wind gusts of up to 86 mph swept northwestern Indiana, damaging three transmission towers and snapping more than 120 utility poles.
Indianapolis Power and Light reports about 4,700 of its customers still without power.
