Former NFL player to host Saturday fitness summit

Anthony Thompson keynote speaker

TERRE HAUTE — The Blast Incorporated Fitness Group, led by former NFL football player Ernie Thompson, is hosting a fitness summit from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Terre Haute North Vigo High School.

“We will be demonstrating and allowing those who attend to participate in our various exercise classes,” Thompson said. “The purpose of the summit is to get more people from the community involved.”

The event is sponsored by the Vigo County School Corp. The VCSC Wellness Clinic will do health screenings from 8:30 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. The health screenings will include blood sugar, blood pressure, oxygen checks and pulse.

The summit will include five demonstration sessions that include weightlifting; walking/running; cardio cross-training; high-intensity Blast; and step aerobics.

The fitness group meets at 5:20 a.m. three days a week at the Terre Haute South Vigo High School weightroom. It also meets evenings.

Anthony Thompson will be the keynote speaker.

A healthy lunch will be provided, and there will be a $10 charge to cover health screenings and lunch, Ernie Thompson said.

The objective is for people “to see what we do and for us to pull more people in from the community,” he said.

But even if people don’t join the Blast fitness group, the hope is they will become more aware of the importance of fitness and good nutrition — and participate in some fitness activities.

People of all fitness levels are welcome to attend and participate in activities geared to their fitness level.

To register, email Thompson at eet@vigoschools.org. Also, those interested can go on Facebook to Team Blast Inc. Fitness Summit.
