Coal train cars from Carlisle derail near Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say some cars have derailed from a coal train near Bloomington in southern Indiana.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department says the derailment happened about 2 a.m. today involving a train with about 100 cars. WTHR-TV and WRTV report six cars left the track and that no other vehicles were involved. No injuries were reported.

The derailed cars knocked down power lines along the tracks, which WISH-TV reports cut electricity to about 150 homes or businesses in the area near Indiana 45 a few miles northeast of Bloomington.

Inspectors were working to determine what caused the derailment of the train traveling from the Carlisle area in Sullivan County to Indianapolis.
